Help me set up a minecraft server!?

I'm trying to set up a minecraft server, mostly so a friend and I can shoot TNT arrows at each other. I've downloaded the software, and I've played many times by localhost, but I don't know how to set it up so my friend can join. I have a d-link brand router if that matters.
